My name is Mary Crawford. I am 73 years old. I was working with the Troup County School System in 1992 when I first started having the symptoms of Fibromyalgia. I was hurting in my shoulders, arms, and legs. I could not dress myself without severe pain. I eventually had to retire from my job in 1997 because the pain was so bad. I was not able to stand or walk at all. Even after retirement, when I would go to bed at night I was not able to turn over. I would awaken all during the night with pain. I went to my medical doctor trying to find answers to my pain. He diagnosed me with Fibromyalgia. He was not able to treat me so he referred me to a Rheumatologist in Opelika, Alabama who put me on five different medications… not helping my problem at all. I went to orthopedic doctor… still to no avail. I knew my pain was real but no one seemed to understand. Then my cousin called me one day and told me of an ad she saw in the LaGrange Daily News of a doctor who specialized in Fibromyalgia… Dr. Langston. My first appointment with Dr. Langston was July 02, 2008. I am now walking better, doing my daily activities that I thought I would never be able to do. I feel better now than I have in fifteen years. I am off of all my medications except my blood pressure pill. Dr. Langston, with the help of the Good Lord, has given me my life back!!!

I had my first office visit with Dr. Herwig on May 12, 2009. Upon arriving at the office I was greeted by Erin in a very friendly manner. I could hardly walk, sit comfortably for very long, could not stand or get up out of my seat very easily. I could not walk up and down stairs and had much difficulty sleeping through the night, so I got very little sleep. I had my first two adjustments on May 13th and May 14th. Dr. Herwig spoke to me about my evaluation and recommended treatment program. I accepted the program and began my care. By the 3rd week of adjustments I was sleeping through the night. I was beginning to feel better as time went on. I continued on with the program that was set up for me. On July 2nd, I left for a week vacation to Disney World in Florida with my family, and had the best time of my life. Thanks to my care plan and Dr. Herwig I can now walk, bend, sit, sleep and go up and down stairs with no problem. At one time I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia; I no longer have any signs of this. Had I not made that one phone call and started my adjustment program, I would not have been able to have the great time on vacation. I am now able to live a normal life again, which will include chiropractic care for the rest of my life. Thank you Dr. Herwig so much for giving me back my active life!

In November of 2008, I fell at work injuring my neck, shoulder, and back. I was in constant pain and I even told my family and my doctors I felt as if my head was on wrong. In the beginning, my head was leaning to the left because it was too painful in my neck to move it. After going to physical therapy, I was able to move my head and neck but it was so painful.
I was sent to a neurologist and given multiple shots at $1,200 per shot making me feel much worse and causing a bad reaction. My face was unrecognizable. This doctor said I needed more intense treatment and sent me to another pain management doctor. This doctor gave me more shots and two epidurals. He thought he had caused a blood clot to form but he said it was because of something I must have done. I continued to get worse and finally, I said to this doctor, “Maybe I need to see a different kind of doctor.” This made him really angry and he yelled at me and implied that maybe I wasn’t even in pain. I left in tears and his assistant was also in tears.
After living each day in pain, my two sisters and I went to the emergency room here in Brunswick. When I walked in, there was a Paisley magazine, which I picked up and unconsciously carried it through the hospital. When I opened it, I saw this ad about Dr. Hoeffner and called immediately. I went in the next day, was X-rayed, and I saw on the X-ray what I had been feeling all the time. My head wasn’t on right-but it is now. After my first adjustment, I was in tears because there was no more pain. I know this was God answering my prayers. Not only is the pain gone, but I feel brand new inside. Thank you, Jesus, and thank you, Dr. Hoeffner.

Connor first came to my office when he was 17 years old and a junior in high school. He was suffering from a condition that the medical profession calls Chron’s disease. I am sure that all those reading this particular article know what that is, but for the sake of brevity let me just tell you that he had suffered for four years with diarrhea, terrible stomach cramping and pain, and many sleepless nights. The MD’s answer to this condition was to treat him with a number of different medications that had side effects that caused symptoms nearly as painful as the condition itself. When I first met Connor his face was swollen from the steroids and he simply looked “defeated”. He has just come from another series of treatments at Children’s Hospital in Omaha, NE. He had to endure numerous colonoscopy’s, IV’s, injections, etc. He was given a series of Remicade injections that were specific for the treatment of the symptoms of Chron’s and are incredibly expensive. His mother related to me that they had heard about our clinic and that we had had some success in the treatment of another young man with the same symptoms. They were desperate, as the doctor’s next step was to simply remove his colon! This was supposed to take care of the problem and gain him some normalcy. Connor had missed more days of school in the last four years than he had been able to attend. I don’t need to tell you the rest of the chiropractic story, except to say that after a course of treatment Connor was back at school daily, off ALL medications, still has his colon, and is living life as it was supposed to be lived….HEALTHY!

How great it is to serve such a wonderful profession that literally changes and transforms lives. This young man will have the opportunity to live a long and fruitful life because of chiropractic!!!! I had been diagnosed with POLYMYALGIA and had suffered with it for over twenty-three years. I have had constant aching, burning, tingling, and numbness in the base of my skull, arms, hands, and back for several years. Over time, the intensity had just gotten worse.

Some of the other things that I had been dealing with were shortness of breath, hearing loss, insomnia, and high blood pressure. I have been on steroids for over nine years, taking up to 9 mg./ day just to manage my pain. Tylenol had become a consistent part of my day in order to function. Over the course of about a year, I had spent several thousand dollars just trying to get some relief from the pain that I was suffering. I had a poor attitude about recovery because nothing had seemed to work up to this point.

 I saw an ad from the Kennard Clinic for fibromyalgia. It was worth a try. I began treatment in February 2009 with Dr. Kennard and after about a month I had began walking again. I hadn’t been able to do that without pain in a very long time, now I’m walking 3 mile/day. Over the time that I have been coming here I have had a drastic attitude change, mostly due to the fact that I am not in pain anymore. I have had NO shortness of breath, I am sleeping better, and I have so much more energy and strength. And I am off all of my prednisone! This was all done with NO drugs and no extra side effects!

My family members are seeing those changes in me over the past several weeks. The things I had been missing out on the most are things like…being able to travel and watch my grandson race his motorcycle; playing with my grandchildren on the floor; playing cards with my friends and family. I actually feel like doing those things now and the best part is that I CAN DO THESE THINGS WITHOUT PAIN!!!! My family is glad to have the OLD me back and I am glad to have my life back!
